Looking for happiness in the mountains
Born in Bilbao, and based in Etxuari, Navarra, Sonia lives between her van and her ropes. With her permanent smile, and her petite athletic body, Sonia was the first Spanish women to receive the professional guide qualification TDII Alta Montaña, and to work as a professional guide, setting up her own business, Rocalia, in 2006. She has more than 15 years experience in the mountains, and balances her work as a guide and high ropes access instructor, with climbing and alpinism.
A sports lover by nature, it was while she was at university that she really became a climber. Only a little later she moved to the Boi valley to be nearer to the ice, where she spent several years. She's climbed in all the Spanish hotspots, and in the Alps, Turkey, Morocco, Patagonia and Peru. She's also done high altitude ascents in Nepal, Kazakstan, Kyrgysztan, China and Peru. Having over some series of diverse injuries that temporarily kept her away from the ice, these days no one can stop her.
A fanatic all-round climber, she lives life to the full, and never wastes a day. Optimistic and enthusiastic, she knows how to pass on what motivates her, enjoying the moment to the full and the simple things that sometimes others miss. It's easy to bump into her in Riglos, Montrebei, Cogne or Chamonix. As a profesional Sonia trusts in, and chooses e-climb because high quality counts... and as for lightweight, there's no better product.
